  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 stick unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 cups confectioner's sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • Purple gel food coloring
  • Black decorating frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Beat egg whites on low speed; add cream of tartar. Gradually mix in sugar until achieving semi-stiff peaks.
  3. Pipe meringue ghosts onto the baking sheet and bake for 2 hours. Leave in the oven for an additional 30 minutes.
  4. While meringues bake, prepare buttercream by mixing softened butter, confectioner's sugar, and milk until smooth; add purple food coloring.
  5. Frost cooled cupcakes with buttercream and place meringue ghosts on top, adding black frosting details.
